New array system test LtBarclay 09/21/2017 (Thu) 08:14:01 No. 269
You might have heard the thepiratebay is doing a trial of a web-based mining system in order to support themselves. Like us, because of their illicit nature, no traditional advertisers will touch them, and those that will, well, suck (popunders, malware, etc).

To revive the array once more, we are going to try the same. Our previous mining system was clunky and excluded old devices and phones, while this system is easy and works on everything.

*** Edit
So I have some initial results for everyone to chew on. The array ran from 9/21 to 9/22, for about 40 hours before hitting the 100GB limit on mab. At which time, it would have needed to log off vpn and log back on, in order to continue. I felt we got enough testing in.

672 files uploaded. 85.46 Million total hashes submitted, of which the accepted hashes netted us 0.01329 XMR. So roughly $1.20 generated. This is actually a decent result. If that were to continue, *edit fucked up math $21/month would cover the array's costs and a little extra. I feel the overall response was good to the experience, there are a few things to fix like deducting shares upon file completion instead of request and other quality of life things.

The array still struggles to scale well with more than 20 active users. It's simply a limitation of the design. This probably limits the overall potential of the mining system, and at the current rate wouldn't come close to paying for the site's cost, which is where all the content on the array comes from in the first place.

An idea I had was the scale the required hashes to the size of the file. After all, it's doesn't seem quite fair that a user can jam the queue with a 650mb video for just 25 shares, and just means those with more powerful devices can outpace others and lock down the uploads. Anyway, thread is unlocked and we can talk about this whole thing.
Works like a dream. Barclay, you genius. Hopefully the data supports ongoing functionality.

Yeah it works great and Barclay is indeed a genius.

Three cheers for our favorite porn provider!
Just tried it out and it worked perfectly. Hoping it turns out to be a viable option for the future!
Accepted hashes are generating about 5x faster than the upload queue can serve them. Maybe require more hashes.
Works great though can the accepted hashes be lowered down to like 15? they run a bit slow for me

hip! hip! huraay!!!
Amazing! Thanks man!
I have a suggestion.

maybe if you have enough hashes accepted you can spend a little extra to hurry up the process in the queue especially if your request has a high number like #6
Ended my session with like 1400 hashes, maybe make the upload cost higher or bid up or something
This is great! Very clever of you to figure this out. I have a couple of ideas which might help with income from the array, though I expect they're far more complicated to implement than they sound. Still, I may be wrong!

First, a simple donation option might be worthwhile? As in it simply removes accepted hashes from peoples' accounts. Yes, they could simply avoid spending them as a show of support, but a warm fuzzy feeling from donating so others can jerk off is always good.

Similarly, though more complicated, perhaps a bounty system? Empornium uses one for requesting scenes. People could donate towards a specific scene, the house takes a cut, and at the end, buys those scenes when they reach completion. Or if another user has that clip, they get a portion of the hashes for providing the clip.
This is a massive improvement in my opinion
I have never managed to get the old mining system running and I have always encountered some kind of error or it did not work for me at all
This new system is a whole lot easier to use and really makes me want to support the array for some content

I like it! :)
>>280
EDIT:
I'd really like to see a command that shows you which vids have been added to the array recently
If that is any possible…
This would make browsing the lists a lot easier

But the new mining system is a great way to get things started!

Thank you and that's really great to hear. I've put a lot of work into the array over the past year +, and I was really bummed when it turned out there was basically 0 user support for it. I'd love it if this system can keep the array functional at a minimum impact to it's users.

>>273

Delicate balance there. The array has never scaled to more than around ~20 users at a time very well. You can require more hashes, but at a certain point, it makes phones / low power devices unusable, and might make the wait time for horny PC users too long to put up with. We're definitely looking at all the data and will present some options.

>>274

Any lower than 25 and there's basically no reason to have the mining system. Currently at 25/video, we're only making $1 / 1000 videos uploaded.

>>277
What if someone else does that after you, are you then #2? and then someone else? and another? are you back to #6, and have wasted your shares? This is just asking for the system to be in complete disarray.

>>279
Donating your unused shares to another user? Admirable, but ultimately defeats the purpose of the mining system. That would just create more uploads, with less hashes overall. The bounty system idea is worth looking at though.

>>281
This has been discussed before, but it's not entirely feasible. Currently the lists show the date the original file was created, not added to the array. To change the date, I would have to edit the file, i.e. change the file name for every video that gets loaded into the array. I'm really not thinking that's possible.
don't get how this works? Have >25 accepted hashes but checkbalance and requesting any video and it says I don't have any balance. What gives?
got it. supposed to enter FODUser|XXXXX and not just XXXXX in the textbox. going well sofar.
>>282
> Currently at 25/video, we're only making $1 / 1000 videos uploaded

So 25000 hashes per dollar.

My PC is taking around 2 mins to process 25 hashes.

My average… ahem… session is about 15 minutes, which would be around 187 hashes.

That means 133.69 sessions to make a dollar. Challenge accepted.

My problem with this is that datamining can significantly reduce the lifespan of computers. And that you're effectively making us pay for pirated fatty porn.
>>286
Well, so does playing games…
And you know, keeping this website and array alive is worth it, don't you think
>>286
That's a bit of a fallacy, as by time CPU-only mining did any amount of appreciable damage to a system, it would already be long past obsolete. We're talking 5-10 years of mining 24/7.

The whole site is based around sharing. The array is one of the most efficient mechanisms we have to do that in a consistent, user-controlled manner. If you truly believe the site should not solicit anything, at all, from it's users to survive and supply content to them, that's your opinion.
For those of you who were able to use the array this go around, or anyone who wanted to but didn't, I would still recommend using this link and mine when possible.

https://bbw-chan.nl/newfodarray.html

We are planning on reviving the array, we just aren't sure when exactly that will be.

If you've used the array before, make sure you type your nickname exactly how it appears in the channel into the field at the top of that newfodarray page.

If you haven't, use the form at the bottom of that page to join the channel first. You can either choose a nickname yourself or use the preassigned foduser nickname, just make sure you join the channel first.

This way when the array does come back up you guys will have enough hashes to get the files you want.
>>288
I think it's a great idea. I'm guessing at 25 hashes per video, the array is running at a massive loss and you're relying on a few people generating way more hashes than they ever use.

Maybe you could increase the required hashes so that it can pay for server rental and all the extra bandwidth?

Also maybe phone users can register a nickname and then leave their PC crunching hashes while they request videos on their phone?
This is a great piece of work.

The one thing I'd note from my current requirement for the array and this site is that I've got used to regularly checking so rarely miss much on files.fm as I generally get in there quite early.

So, is there anyway of setting up a FODUser account on the hash generator counter that pays for the site and asking for people to sign on as FODUser|SITE for example? I'm sure we all could spare a couple of hours a day without any real issue to help generate for the site costs aswell.

The only other way would be to increase the accepted hashes to 50 per video and straight split it.

C'mon it's free fat porn everyone. Giving up a couple hours of your CPU processor whilst you are online in anycase is no issue, right ??
>>291
I agree, I would have no issue just idling on the website collecting hashes while im doing other things.
Soon I have made 10 000 accepted hashes. How much is that in dollars?
Thanks everyone for your input. Phase 2 test this weekend, will introduce scaling hashes to size of file, grabbing a new IP when the 100GB limit is reached, and deduction on file upload instead of request. Stay tun3d!
>>293
40 cents, but thanks. :)
can i gpu mine i got 10 rx 480 cards and i can dedicate 1 card
oh no array is closed;( i've mined almost 80c in a few days just downloaded a few and now it's offline. please can we have another testing phase later. was such a great idea
