Array 2018 LtBarclay 02/05/2018 (Mon) 12:05:22 No. 459
**** DAY 1 NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO PROOF OF WORK ON MULTIPLE FILES AT ONCE. At best, your total speed will be halved for each you add, and at worst, some systems may lock up. JUST DON'T DO IT. RESIST THE TEMPTATION.

**** As requested, there is now a way to just "mine for the site in general". Nothing to do with the array, it's a pure CPU power donation on your part. https://bbw-chan.nl/minersupport.html

So, after some testing the array is back up. There is now a channel limit of 25 users at a time (including the bots and admins).
https://bbw-chan.nl/arrayfaq.html

If the channel is full, try again later.
The array now reboots and gets a new IP every 250 files added the to the queue, for maximum uptime.
Because the proof-of-work mining system is at a set difficulty, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE ARRAY WITH PHONES OR LOW POWER TABLETS. Due to the way the javascript miner works, an i3-i7 is essentially required.
The proof-of-work required is weighted: smaller files require very little, larger files require a sizeable chunk.

This is just another test, don't expect 100% uptime and hash requirements may change.
The old KiwiIRC web client we had seems to be broken, so you can access the array via https://rizon.net/chat : enter #fodarray as the channel name.

IRC Newb tip:
Don't just type one letter or some common word in the nickname box. Rizon is a popular network and your name is likely to already be taken, which will cause issues when the server renames you to Guest#####. Just mash your hand on the keyboard for a bit and save yourself the hassle of figuring out why the array won't respond to you.
Why is the chan's catalog view broken? :(

may I ask why we use a file uploader system instead of XDCC?
coinhive is shit. stop trying to make money off stolen porn clips, it's embarrassing…
>>462
Perhaps you haven't figured out it's for covering bandwith costs and you seems to want ads for this site as well?
>>462
lol - pretty spot on
>>459

Catalog view is broken sir
>>459
Please fix this error.
That should not be a problem for the operator of this site.
It is unfortunately very confusing at the moment and not fun.
>>466
Thank you

There must be something wrong with security settings of your browser, pc or network. I tested few big files and these were the mining times. Time in minutes

457MB 8.08
596MB 13.21
496MB 7.38

And this was tested with 7 years old office pc. Try download some other file so it can be ruled out that the particular file does not have wrong required need(since there was multiple files around 200mb from renayee I cound't tell what was the one you tried).

I am aware of the catalog issue and am working to resolve it.
>>461
Lots of reasons. It saves bandwidth: one upload to MAB can serve hundreds of downloads, XDCC is 1 to 1. It ensures anonymity: if the array made direct connections with it's users, even behind VPN, the results could be bad. Never underestimate a nerd with too much time. And finaly, it allows us to -attempt- to monetize, like with the coinhive system.

100% agree, it is pathetic. It's just another try in a long series of tries to find some way to get the site to support itself. Look, I didn't become admin here to be the pirate king of porn. That said, there will come a time (probably sooner than anyone would be comfortable with) where I will throw up my hands and say "I tried", hand this dumpster fire off to someone else, and be done with it. Now that the cold realization of having signed up for $1300/year lifetime subscription to running a pirate porn site has sunk in, I'm more determined than ever to either get this site to pay for itself or give it up. I'm clearly no good at it. If we went back to responding to DMCA and had traditional advertisers, this site would be a goldmine. As it is, it's a giant money sink, and I'm not going to be doing this forever.
>>469
Before you give up maybe you can explore other ways to run it. E.g. using a cheaper (non-private) hoster while only being accessible using Tor.
Donwloading the portable Tor Firefox shouldn't be too hard.
>>470
Appreciate the suggestion but I don't think you understand the problem. It's not the array that's the issue, that only costs $30/month. It's the site, at $110/month, that needs funding. The array was just one idea to help fund the site. It's our only "hook".
>>471
When do you know has the mining thing be any help? I've let that old laptop mine but checking the readings you ain't gonna be millionaire with just me mining for you.
>>472
Judging from the last time we rolled out the coinhive miner, it takes at least a month to "settle" whether or not we are going to be able to keep using it. Last time, I think we ran for 2 weeks and called it quits because it looked like it wasn't panning out… only to check our balance a few months later to realize we had generated $30 in that time. If that trend continues this time, $60/month from the coinhive system would be AMAZING. That would be over half our operating costs, and would significantly improve my mood. So, the answer is, let's wait a few more weeks and I'll give everyone full report. Hopefully a few more dedicated users will throw a spare computer on the miner support page.
Dumb question… Is there a way of just donating money, rather than bitcoins or crypto-currency?
>>474
No. In order to keep this site DMCA free, I can never associate my real contact information with this site in any way. That means no paypal, no patreon, no venmo, etc. There is a way to purchase walmart/target gift cards, send me the code, then I use a site to sell it for crypto, but it's a giant rip off for everyone involved (i.e. a $100 gift card would only net us $60 in crypto). I am sure the next admin who runs this site will take traditional donations (and probably institute traditional ads / popunders as well), but I am firmly against it.

Thanks for responding. I didn't actually try another file.

I might try going with windows IE and see what gives.

I'm with this so much. Don't ever change!
The array is offline for maintenance until further notice.
