Is The Array alive? ZAGray 06/14/2019 (Fri) 08:35:38 Id:3dbc4b No. 105800
Hello everyone! Cannot connect to the #FODArray channel anymore. IRC Server says "Channel not found". Is The Array still alive?

How do you think - should i develop my own project similar to The Array?

Sorry, tryed to post to the /ar/, but it's locked for posting.
Based 2016 poster
May be.
But how about The Array?
It's over?

I still have the code and the content, but the actual server used to run it cost too much. It would only have been an extra $50-60 a month, but we're struggling with the $120 just to keep the main site online, so it didn't make sense to keep it going. Funnily enough, I STILL see my -HB files shared here now and again, long after the array died. So at the very least, it did it's job of seeding the collective.

If you want to take a swing at doing something similar, go ahead. Just don't expect any community support beyond using the system.

What are the required specs and what extra cost could you put into it?

I have some idle hardware and outstanding traffic capabilities. And I can allow some price flexibility.

So sad :-(

Hello. I'm from Russia, so i can't imagine such a high prices to run this site or The Array. Everything about IT is very cheap here. OK, The Array needs a lot of space for files, but technically speaking it's not neccesary, beacause main task of The Array is to hide content from copyrighters as i think :-) So we can use encrypted files on Google drives or similar services with regular automatic re-upload to different Google drives to hide original link %-) There's no need to buy large HDD space and it sounds pretty simple to me by technical side.

I don't wait for any kind support by the community, but how do you think - can i post here links to my own system to make other peaple use it?

Russia's IT is cheap but it is dead in the long run. Five years from now and you'll live in a place, similar to China or UAE in terms of internet freedoms.

Having big place is not that complicated really.

I, on the other hand, have a much better capability for this task. I have IT infrastructure in Ukraine. Unlike russia It has no government problems in terms of freedom and censorship. And infrastructure in Ukraine is way better then in Russia. Heck, I can get you few 10 GIGAbit links with no traffic limit in Ukraine. And they will be operational within a week since placing the order.
Also you get fastpass to various global IXPs.

Even though I can be quite flexible about the price, there has to be some.

Thank you for your reply. Sounds very interesting.
How about the price for cheapest VPS for example? How much it will cost and what are the system's specifications?

The only thing that I worry about is the possibility of war between our countries. In that case i think all network communications will be blocked.

We use and provide FreeBSD, Solaris and MacOS.

Available hardware options are (as of now):

CPU's: Xeons 51s, Xeon 54s, Some Core i5's of 6-th generation. Also I believe we have some number of SPARC Cpu's in Idle Sun Netra servers.

Normally we don't do actual VPS, but a FreeBSD jail or FreeBSD VPS (1 core of i5) with 2G RAM and 100Gb of HDD could be yours for $10 a month.
That one will feature 100 Mbit network port caped at 50 Mbit/sec and up to 10T of traffic monthly.

If you prefer Xeons or would like SSD - that's discussable as well.

Other options are possible just ask what would you like.
High reliability options are also available.

Would you like some contact info for arrangement?

P.S. Yeah, a full scale war is the last thing east Europe needs, current situation is bad enough.

10 T is big number, but anyway it sounds like limited traffic. Why?

And how about storage? How many GBs i will get for my 10$?

Give me your contact to speak about all this stuff.
>>106306

Sorry, now i can see the answer to my question :-)

Take a look at: https://firstvds.ru/products/vds_vps_hosting

Russians offering 4 cores and 4 gb of ram at cost of 579 rubles or 9,05$ . HDD space not much smaller.

The place I think about for the purpose of VPS is one of our traffic exchange spots. It has uplink to few local ISP's and business plans from them (so they provide reliability). Most of the time you still can go unlimited. But when you cross 10T there is a chance they freeze connection till we talk with them. Not a big deal to arrange, really. So would you need more - let us know.

Thats an OpenVZ container. KVM option from them is 739. But that's still resource sharing.
I can provide full dedicated resources and real bare metal. Its another level.
To make it more appealing - I'll double hdd space.
>Worried the hand of Stalin will smite the US

Then you've got a lot more to worry about than if your porn servers are accessible.
>>106357
hes talking about war between Russia and Ukraine
>>106356

Sent you e-mail.
Regardless of which country it is, being at war is more problems than worrying about access.

Any country at war with any other is all bad news. Wish we could all just be Comrades but the world does not work that way.

You know as I was converting more of the array's content to x265 I was getting a little nostalgic and checked up on this thread. Definitely, bare metal is the only way to go and we have it on our current host for the site, it's been awesome.

I'm about due to make another drop pod thread, but I am kind of dreading those few days sifting and uploading the requests manually. I miss the days where the array ran (almost) 24/7 and I could check out the channel and see what everyone was requesting and the constant ebb and flow of interest from one model to another. Super interesting to watch and programming that was actually some of the most fun I've ever had.

I'm STILL unemployed and it's looking bleak. I may be looking into starting the array again in some form... but I think it might be quite different than what it was.
