WTF? LtBarclay##vOgLqq 01/19/2020 (Sun) 09:54:52 Id:a16b10 No. 22
Welp, after last time, I didn't think I'd have to make another thread like this, but here we are. What should have been an entirely routine software upgrade went sideways really quickly. Basically: drop and backup databases before you do any kind of upgrade to software that touches it. More specifically, our main database was corrupted, but still backing up. When restored, it went into repair mode and went back to the last checkpoint at... 7/2018. The last time the database was actually shutdown. While I considered restoring that, in the end, I decided against it. The tone here has shifted, and a fresh start seemed applicable. So what did we gain? Last 50 posts is back. Our mongodb setup on the server is now properly being used with NUMA (moderate performance increase, though with such a smaller database, we won't see the effects until we get back to parity). Various bugs and glitches in the underlying lynxchan software have been fixed. What changed? Many boards were removed or merged. You might not agree with the changes, but several near-dead boards were axed and others given their own cycle thread elsewhere. Overall max threads per board has decreased, in order to save backup space. Captcha is now sitewide, not just the most active boards. URLS are no longer auto-hyperlinked. Now, if you copy and paste a sketch url and get a virus, that's on you. We're not done tweaking yet, as we're essentially starting from scratch. The wayback machine has some decent snapshots if you want to try to recreate some specific threads. So, that's everything for right at the moment explorers. You can discuss / ask / comment here about the overhaul and general input.

Dumb ass decision. Especially for Inflation. Do I need to list the amount of actual inflation subtypes there are how limiting all of those o a single thread on a board alongside loli threads just isn't a good idea? I say return those fucking boards because this won't end well!
Things going sideways and not turning out right happens, but honestly removing some of the boards is kind of just making a bad situation worse. Like. Real worse. Kill the site off worse. IS there even a backup of the old posts?
Barclay, this is idiocy. I swear to god, this could be the final nail in the coffin for this website. Deleting boards like bhm I guess I could understand because they weren't really used that much, but deleting FUCKING INFLATION AND PUTTING ALL OF IT INTO ONE THREAD? Are you high? This is such a bad idea. All discussion in that thread is going to be drowned out by TMC trading/begging, which is (or I guess *was* now) one of the main appeals of /inf/. Nobody else is going to be able to get a word in. Somebody wants something specific like male inflation or blueberry pics? Well fuck them, because they won't be able to. That was the main reason /inf/ was a board, because you can't just push all that into one thread. Please, see reason and make change where it's necessary. I've used this site for 2 years and I would hate to see it go under.
>>22 Hey, Barks, sorry to hear about the crash. Anyhow, in my honest opinion you should remove Everything Else and replace it with Inflation, because EE and ALT are pretty much with the same kind of content. Also, are mp4s/webms dead?
>>31 Inf has been re-added. It's amazing how many times we've tried to kill it but the backlash is untenable, so have at it. >>33 We keep three days of backups. What I did not realize is once i kicked off the upgrade the first day and the DB was touched, it was corrupted. Days later, and we have 3 days of corrupted backups. There is a possibility of bringing up a read only copy of the site from between Nov-Dec 2019, but at this point, I believe it's better to start fresh. >>34 >>>/inf/ >>35 Webms should still work, MP4 will be added back shortly.
>>36 Thanks, hun. I should mention, I plugged in a board from another IB that I use as a bunker of sorts in one of the threads. I'm mainly interested in 2d, but use it as a bunker if need be.
>>34 >nail in the coffin Dude can you be even more dramatic, I doubt it's even in the top three most active boards
>>36 wow you actually added it back. You know what, I commend you for rectifying that mistake instead of just doubling down like a lot of people would. Thank you.
>>38 I more meant the sudden removal of a whole bunch of boards and nuking the entire site history. Sorry, I probably should have been more specific with my phrasing.
>>22 >Many boards were removed or merged. You might not agree with the changes, but several near-dead boards were axed and others given their own cycle thread elsewhere. I agree with you on this. There were a few boards that were ghost towns. Plus it never made sense to have both /gen/ and /meta/. Most people just ended up posting site related things in /gen/. By the way, can you add a border around the floating quick reply table? Something along the lines of "border: 1px solid #000;" for "#quick-reply table" should do. The quick reply box blends in with posts while I'm scrolling making it hard to see where it's covering up posts.
>>41 By the way, was looking to see if any pages broke and I found one: your donate page results in a 404.
Bring back /trans/! You killed the board just as a spectaclar new girl posted, now probably not going to see more unless it comes back. who really cares it if was a little bit inactive sometimes, it was the only place online for good looking chubby amateur trans. Bad enough Anon went full retard transphobic and new versions have no more /traps/, now this place?
yeah dude honesly kinda shitty yall decided to yeet /trans/
Is there another sites like this? IThere's nothing to do here
So where does preg stuff go now then?
>>44 Yeah Agree I don't use the Trans board but I don't really want Everything Else to contain all the Trans/Futa stuff as well. Boards are seperate for a reason. Not everyone outside of the traditional boards wants the same thing. Speaking of which, BHM seems to be gone too
Where the hell am I supposed to post male shit now?
So far: >bhm >preg >trans Are in demand. Any other boards people want back?
>>58 There was a board where you were able to post stuff using the built-in drawing software. It wasn't really an active board but it was pretty nice to have. I just don't remember the board's name from the top of my head. Also there was the meta board. Wouldn't mind that back too.
There should be one board that merges old BHM, penis etc. boards. anything obviously male oriented. A second board for Trans since being male and being trans female are two vastly different concepts. Everything else should be exactly what it was...things that didn't fit anywhere else. I feel like pregnancy would be a better fit for Everything Else than what they've currently merged it with It makes sense to have a smaller thread limit on less used boards but considering some of those boards generally only have 1 or 2 'main' threads that stick around it's not really a permanent solution it's obvious you guys are trying to steer bbwchan to just BBWs which, i get it, it's the name of the site...but this site is much more than that. Sure, most of it is cancerous, and people begging etc. but for some of us, bbwchan is the only place we have. Some of the community is such a niche that it's impossible to have a real site for them and the only real answer is small boards on places like this. take everything I say with a grain of salt though cause i'm pretty drunk rn
I think most of the boards can come back, but I only say that because I visit so few. The one I want back is the Photo Manipulation board. It was slow, but only because do so takes time and we were starting to get a few regular poster.

Sorry for the the late reply all, work has me swamped. >>40 There's no hard and fast decision on which boards are perma-removed (I'll provide more rational later). Your point on site history stands though, as I was fairly intent on keeping at least some part of the site's past intact: thus why I had backups at all and why I did my best to transfer as much as possible when we originally moved from tinyboard to lynxchan in 2016. Finally failing in my duty to be a decent-ish admin was gigantic blunder... but I have to admit a part of me is somewhat pleased in giving the site a refresh. I think most would agree site culture had gotten fairly toxic (at least on the main boards) and rules were being broken left and right. >>41 Done. >>43 Fixed and updated, thank you. >>44 Ok, real talk. No one wants to mod those sections, neither do they want to see them there squandering under the weight of 3-8 posters trying to keep the board on life support in 2-4 threads that remain active. Beyond that, we simply don't cater to those things. There's an argument to be had that as far as search rank goes, have as many keywords as possible! Here's another: our backups were 50GB and we were nearing maxing out our server, both in bandwidth and CPU load. We simply don't have the resources to scale, and removing a few chunks of our audience might be the best thing for the site in the long term. >>50 IDK, tbh. Let's say you guess how many women in tits/booty actually fit the term BBW? 20%? 30%? At least a good portion. But preg? Nah man. That's rare. And the board's activity reflected that. It seems like it was only used super rarely by amateurs, and that was it's main draw. For actual preg porn, there are SO many better options than bbw-chan. >>53 They were separated in the first place because they didn't fit. At all. >>55 I just... it's bbw-chan. I just don't know what else to say. Why did we have a /penis/ board? I have no idea. Why did we have a BHM board? Same answer. >>59 Oekaki. The applet was ancient code that was buggy AF, and the board was entirely dead since woot left. There was really no point to it's existence. >>66 I get this viewpoint. From a "I want to appeal to the widest audience because that gets me the most ad revenue" anyway. From the admin of a site with limited moderators who now has limited time, tbh I feel relieved there is less to moderate, even more so because I consciously ignored such sections and let spam etc last way too long as result. >>114 Will consider.
>>114 That was my favorite board too. I don't know where to look for morphs here now.
This site sucks now, no reason to not just go to stufferdb instead
http://boards.anonib.ru/tr/ Anonib traps is back as of today. Post requests there and help populate it again. If BBWChan want to be transphobes then we take our contributions elsewhere.
>>160 I liked drawing on the Oekaki board, but it was pretty sad to see nobody else draw on it. I can understand why, since the application was pretty buggy, so I understand where you are coming from. Is it possible to find a plugin and add it to the bbwdraw room? This way drawthreads could get other artist to work together, and maybe edit others work. I am not sure if you'd like to go the route that 4chan has with an /i/ board and /ic/ board. Not sure how many artist active draw in draw threads here, so I am not sure if a separate /ic/ board would be worth. I am not sure about the rules for bbwdraw is now, since it's combined, so does this mean bbwalt rules are included? I would love to help find something to replace the old program, but I am not sure how to go about looking that up. Is it an plugin or something? We can't expect you to find everything, so it would be helpful to give some of help especially towards things we'd like added. Thank you reading.
where the fuck is bhm
>>160 thank you for your service. i know you're working harder than moot did in the entire last 10 years he owned 4chan. >>161 >>114 i honestly didn't know there were people here who actually liked morphs. all i ever see on bbwreal is people being disappointed when they realize an image is a morph. >>66 i think there should be a BHM board just because it's part of the community (to an extent), but i see no reason whatsoever to have a trans/LGBT board. people aren't here for that. they're here for fat. >>166 >If BBWChan want to be transphobes then we take our contributions elsewhere. fuck off, faggot. no one here will miss your tranny ass, especially not with that level of entitlement. >>173 i agree with barclay on this one. i just don't think it's worth the investment. i'd rather the site admins focus their limited resources on other issues, especially since woot is gone. do you know any good websites for that kind of drawing where there could just be a general thread on bbwdraw? i think that would fill in for a lot of your desire unless you really loved the board integration in particular >>163 i disagree. your opinion is wrong.
>>166 I said it earlier in the everything else thread, but the draw of the trans board here wasn't the trans content, amateur trans shit is dime-a-dozen, it was the fat trans girls, and if you're not offering that, you can fuck off, especially seeing as it was a cost saving decision that a "lamo fuck trans people" decision
>>240 Speak for yourself. /trans/ was the only reason I still bothered with this place. Fat trans content is rare as hens teeth, and removing one of the few outlets for it when vanilla BBW content is widely available is a braindead maneuver.
putting in votes for bhm and trans
*Emerges from cloud of sombreros* People asking about a /Trans/ board and /Futa/ board just stick it up some threads in /BBW Alt/ that's mostly what the place is for, less popular fetish stuff. If the stuff you were posting wasn't BBW then why the hell were you here and not a multitude of other places? I'm not intereted in Trans / Futa BBW content but nor do I care for much of the rest of the stuff in /bbwalt/ either. >>160 Well the BHM board came about because some annoying gits started spamming the BBW and BBW drawn boards back in the day and being told off which resulted in the mods / admin getting fed up of having to deal with them and just making a BHM board.
>>240 >no one here will miss your tranny ass Speak for yourself. If there's one person here I wouldn't miss it would definitely be you.
Site owners Have you ever thought about including non-BBW content on this site, or at least thought about creating other sites using this site as a template for regular body types or other fetishes? Nothing to do or problem with this fetish, I come here daily. But this website is a lot similar to the public nudes board that dutch po' po' took down a couple of years ago, right? Said website always came back though, like over a decade it went down, properly, about 3 times but always came back stronger. I've not found any replacement for this website, and this site is fantastic, but obviously very fetish specific. It would be great to get a more general board with this same type of posting and community back again.
The last 50 posts is not working. It seems to be set at last 5, not 50. If that's a variable you can input, I would suggest making it more like 20-25 anyway.
I cannot upload images from my iPad anymore. From chrome the page crashes and from safari the page will just reload. What did you do?
>>163 I know the admin of stufferdb, it's definitely a great place to check out. Have fun! >>166 Not the intention to seem transphobic, but glad there's an alternative for those seeking this type of content. I can safely say that of the removed boards, /trans/ has the lowest chance of coming back. >>173 I know of no other plugin, but if you find another lynxchan instance with it, let me know, I'll do my best to integrate it. The popularity of such plugins has plummeted, so it will probably be difficult to find an 'up to date' one. >>240 >>256 >>377 >>380 >>396 >>429 Look, I get removing trans/bhm/manip/etc touched some nerves and I expected as much. We aren't kink-shaming, we're not trying to be exclusion-ist. We were pretty cold in our decision making. Basically, when you have 2-3 people contacting me on discord every few months to interview for mod positions from some boards, and literally *0* for others in well over a year, you have to make some tough decisions. When no one wants to mod a section, you can infer that no one is visiting and cares enough about that section to do so. That's really all it came down to. Not enough interest, not enough mods, so we cut those sections loose. The three remaining mods (I don't really count, as I'm mostly just back-end) have their hands full to the point where some would say even the most popular boards aren't modded enough, to say nothing of the less popular ones. No ones wants to be greeted by some errant spam CP post in a section that's barely looked at, let alone moderated, but that was happening more often than not. >>432 I've mulled about the idea. While I have a much better handle lynxchan now than when I started, it's still a finicky, complicated mess in some areas. I'm not too sure I'd enjoy running two sites, and honestly more "general" anonymous forums are a dime a dozen. >>435 Good catch, fixed, and set to 25 as suggested. >>440 Developer is aware but neither him nor I have a iOS device for testing. It seems to work fine on OSX, but iOS is definitely the cuplrit here, this specific bug only happens on it. I'm not too sure how long it will take the dev to fix, but you might submit an issue report at https://gitgud.io/LynxChan/LynxChan with as much information as you can provide, or possibly try firefox on ios? I will continue to monitor his commits on the latest version an pull when I see a fix.
anyone tell me which link is this its not looks like a mega link WVVoU01HTklUVFpNZVRsclkyMXNNbHBUTlc1aU1qbHVZa2RWZFZreU9YUk1NbHAyWWtkU2JHTnVXbkJhV0dNdllWZFJPVTFWV25wWmJXdChQQik0VFVWd1IwNVZWbTFOVldkNlZHMDVWbUpHVVRWaWEwNXVVMFUxWVZaVVdrcE5WR3d3
There needs to be a new base 64 sticky post. I know most will scroll right past it ( maybe try using a nude of a more popular model as the thread pic to grab attention) I think the site is quite good. Makes perfect sense to me to drop some boards. The Everything Else board would be the obvious place for Preg/ Trans/ Etc.
