Survey feedback and responses. LtBarclay##FuufeZ 07/13/2019 (Sat) 10:33:20 Id:91d636 No. 8273
Gonna break this up into a few posts. First, direct response to the actual survey questions.

Ads: Most people are fine with them or have never seen them due to an adblocker. Interestingly, 40% of respondents use an adblocker which is really unforunate. We have a single banner ad on the homepage, the tops of boards, and when in-thread. Now, I've only spoken to my mods about the ads since I introduced them, but here's the deal. They actually do pay for the site. Bitcoin has been absolutely wild lately but the payments from a-ads are fairly regular and even with 40% of people blocking them, they can still pay the bills which is fantastic.

Do you think it's worth adding a script that pops up a message for people who use an adblocker to please turn it off for BBW-Chan, or does the average adblock user just leave it on, 100%, no matter what (I generally do) and it's not even worth trying to change their mind? We could do a lot with that extra 40%, but considering how precarious the site's livelihood is already, I'm hesitant to disrupt the status quo any more than I -have- to.

Bump Lock/Auto archive settings: This one surprised me a bit. About half of you are completely fine with the way it is... that is... threads easily last for 6 months to sometimes a year+ and hardly ever get automatically perma-saved via the archive. The other half of you would like to see changes, and it's pretty even between those who want a fast moving-board, those who want a medium pace board, and those who want something just a hair quicker than what we have no, but not much. While combined the 'I wanted changes' group outweighs 'it's fine' group, because there was no definitive alternative choice, I think it's safe to say we won't be changing these settings, unless it starts to come up again.

Rating lynxchan as a whole: Yea this seems about accurate. Slightly above average and that's probably due mostly in part to the speed (which is way faster than our vichan setup ever was / could be), but clearly there's alot of work to be done. What I'm going to do is try to get the current front-end on a repository that any tech-minded anons can view and request changes to. More on that later.

Link to storefront on new requests rule: Again, basically cut right down the middle, half of you think it's a fine idea, half of you think it wouldn't matter or is a bad idea. With that in mind, what I might do is just edit posts myself to include the storefront (with a link anonymizer like was suggested) if I feel like it's warranted, but not make it a rule.

The array: awww this made me sad. A full third of respondents don't even know what the array is/was which means is it basically falling out of the group consciousness. There was a time from 2015-2017 that it was regarded as a staple of the site, uploading over 1000 videos a day from multiple models and I viewed it as the pulse of the site. Whelp, if I take the 'go for it' plus the 'switch it up' responses together, that's almost 50%. So perhaps I will try to come up with something similar but different.

The concerns:
>Something also HAS to be done about the incessant begging and constant arguing that breaks out in threads. Maybe the site needs more mods? And bumping a thread, especially an older one, should require that person to post content along with it.
I won't argue that we don't need more mods. We could clearly use them. I brought on our latest one, BananaMan, as a direct result of this feedback. This brings us back up to most mods we've ever had, one more and we'll have more than I've ever had at once. We're getting there! Bumping is a tough subject.
>I'd like the link back on the front page for ELITE (erotic literature). I feel that we're not getting new viewers and contributors due to that.
The links on the homepage are dynamic and based on how active the boards are at any given time. Kind of a catch 22: you want the link back on the homepage for more visits, but it would already be there if the board was more active than the 5 listed. What I could do is increase the amount of top-boards that are shown on the homepage. What about that? Or just make it a static list?
>I really appreciate the site and mods. But I would really like to see much harsher policing of off-topic posts in threads not on general discussion. And more moderation on begging and spamming especially from tripfags like Fred for instance. Thank you for all that you do.
Yea, this really comes down to more mods. Be aware though, the more mods we add, the more 'Jess'-like the site may become. All mods have their own take on what should be moderated and how: the more mods, the more ways things get moderated, and from a user perspective they can easily start looking like 'overstepping'. I don't know about N, Targus, and scruffy, but I tend to only spend no more than 4 hours a day moderating, which I know isn't enough. So I definitely miss stuff that I would have otherwise done something about.
>You should categorize by sections similar to a typical porn sight
I don't know what this means.
>The array was better when it became a special event thing, when it was permanently it was a grind on content getting posted, but as a limited event it was cool to pick up anything you might have missed. I'm massively in favour of reducing down to 5 or 6 main boards. What the fuck is bbw fluffys ? That's some weird shit, it';s primarily a porn share site, stick to what it's good at. There's deviantart for that shit.
Lol I assume you mean bbwfurries. Here's the deal: when there was no furry board, and furries were posted in bbwdraw, the furries and the regs were at each other throats, mad at each other for bumping each other's threads off the board. We seperate them and BOOM, no more pissing contests. Think of it like this: I HATE there is a penis board, it's stupid, it makes no sense, it barely gets any posts but if I removed it? Do you want penises everywhere? Because that's how you get penises everywhere.
>No need to constantly change stuff, just because you can.
This might have been a concern when I first took over, but I can tell you I'm extremely careful about making sweeping changes at this point.
>I'd like to see the UI get a redesign, proper button instead of little [-] everywhere for example. Some proper diversion between threads etc.
I'm hoping sharing the front-end on a repository will catapult the UI ahead. Stay tuned.
>I really miss the last 50 posts feature. Other than that, keep up the good work!
This will be back in lynxchan 2.3 which is only a month or two away, stay tuned.
>Please make it so that girls who have their photos posted as revenge porn can more easily contact you, especially with gmail and hotmail addresses. I've been having to monitor the site recently because my asshole ex posted my nudes to stufferdb without my consent and now I'm paranoid they'll wind up here, too.
Nothing I can do about that. Either sign up for one of the thousands of other free email services, or hit me up on discord (though to be fair, I'm not on discord all that often).
> Moderate harder to suppress psychos, misogynists, and people into illegal things. Might need to be a bit heavy handed but it'd be worth it.
Meh, check the mod logs, lots and lots of modding happening. Any harder and you're talking about part-time jobs and none of our mods are paid.

The other stuff:
>Id like to apply for a mod position my email is xxxxxxx
You used a gmail address, which we can't reply to because hotmail/gmail have blocked our subnet.
>As for the array, I'd like to see it come back temporarily at random times. Sort of like how Empornium has unannounced "free-leech" days. That way some lost content is reintroduced back into our ecosystem and you're not continually getting fucked in the ass by the constant, massive bandwidth usage.
So, this would have worked in my previous residence where I had 300mb/down 50mb/up and could run the array's software from my own house on VPN whenever I wanted. That's about the only way to run it randomly, because there are no (that I know) hosting providers that literally let you pay by the days you're actually using something. They all take monthly payments. With my current pitiful internet, the entire array would need to be converted to h265 and even then, eh idk. If I ran it myself, I'd probably have to set the filesize limit wayyyyy low. Like 200mb or less.
>Not sure about what software powered the array, but there might be better options.
Yea, currently, I'm entertaining the idea of a streaming service that can be influenced in what it shows and what it provides for download via the chat. Basically something like a 24/7 stream of curated content (with the model's site clearly overlayed), but the bot could be micro-tipped with crypto to have basic control of the stream for a limited time, or cause it to auotmatically upload it's currently playing video for the next 2-4 hours, something like that. It would take a bit of programming, but honestly I miss coding and it would be fun to try to work it out.
>I feel like at this point if someone doesn't know how to decode a Base64 file then it's a bit fishy. Seems to be normies trying to find out how we're sharing the files and potentially looking at ways to stop them. Could be me being paranoid but yeah maybe try to stop people from helping these retards?
Alright I want to end this here and now: base64 is just a deterrant. It's NOT a lock and key. Everyone's new at some point, not everyone will catch the sticky guiding them to base64decode.org. It's no use trying to keep newbs from learning or old heads from trying to teach them. What I WILL do is make the line about base64 on the sticky BRIGHT ASS RED, so maybe we have fewer people asking about it.
>It would be great if the site had a seperate database that could run bbw related ads with links to models sites. Somthing similar to stufferdb but without the content and just links to bbw content that's verified by other users.
Ehhh, idk about that. Wouldn't that just be a blog at that point? A few other people have wanted to start something similar but I just don't see the draw.
>Love to see timestamps and last 50 replies come back.
Timestamps are only hidden on vertical mobile, but I've seen enough people asking for it back that I'll adjust it. Last 50 will come back on lynxchan 2.3.
>A very useful feature would be to link a 'search by image' for the 'who is she' threads images; As for the mobile version of the site it's got some bugs like the reply menu not being entirely visible in smaller screens
I'll look into putting in a tineye or sauce search, that's a good idea. As for the mobile version, I haven't had a ton of time to work on the UI but hopefull once I get the repository up we can move forward with it
>Sometimes images don't expand when clicked
Yea I've seen that, definitely a bug, I'll make the dev aware.

The praise:
>As a long time lurker, I just want to let you know that i appreciate all you do for the board and its continued existence. BBW-chan is still a regular visit for me, despite the ups and downs of the last six or so months. Either way, your dedication and perseverance for the cause is laudable, and I just wanted to let you know you are appreciated, Barclay. The Emperor Protects.
*BROFIST*
>You're doing an absolutely amazing job keeping the chan going. OK, so back to lurking now, just wanted to say that!
If you do everything right, they won't know you've done anything at all.
>array was dank af
Thanks man, I thought so too.
>Keep up the good work! / Thank you for all you do LTBarclay!
Thanks, I really do try to do what I can.
>This site is awesome, thank you for all you do for the bbw fans out here
There are dozens of us, DOZENS!
>you're an amazing admin
Only in death does duty end.
>Thanks for your work and efforts keeping this board alive so that us damn degenerates can indulge in our deviant fantasies.
It's not deviant baby, it's 2019: fat is mainstream!
Hey man, I also appreciate the shit you drag yourself through to keep this place trucking. Also glad to see some of the server cost situation sorted at the moment.

I'm finding myself going through /gen more often than not and enjoying the community (except for the odd moron here and there - which is to be expected). Also it's cool to up videos (unique names) and then see them uploaded elsewhere for others to have as their own. It's a good place for sure.

Thanks as always for your hard work, Lieutenant. You run a damn good imageboard.

(I don't have any good Trek or 40k memes, so have this panel of 1950s Batman and Batwoman trippin' balls instead.)

I'm really happy with the quality of discussion in /gen/ right now. It's a slow-moving and small enough board that we can have real ongoing discussions, and the userbase is pretty good at self-policing and ignoring obvious bait. We have a couple of /pol/acks who try to hijack discussions, and a couple of SJWs who take the bait and get indignant that the rest of us aren't as upset by this as they are, but the majority of regulars here are good at self-policing and ignoring off-topic derails outside of the /bbwpol/ thread.

> ads
I would definitely put a small request to disable adblock, in something like the same place the ads would go. It is kinda easy to leave it on all the time, and if a website asks me to turn it off I usually give it a try to see how intrusive their ads are. A reminder couldn't hurt -- but don't make it too in-your-face.

> archive settings
I answered this and honestly I barely even understood wtf it was asking. I never go digging past posts, though. I suspect most people who answered "it's fine" don't either.
you shouldnt have included the base64 tutorial. ppl should be able to search and read on their own. Ppl are used to getting spoonfed everything everyday, I remember a week back someone posted a link in a more elaborated way and a bunch of retards couldnt even read his name. Remove the tutorials. thanks
>>8346
Agreed 100%. This also helps get rid of newfags who I feel are typically the ones that spam and beg.
You're a good man, Barclay
i normally use an add block but because i am not at home and use my notebook, i see the add now and if it is like that and donĀ“t mind adds, also if it helps keeping the site alive i am willing to disable my add block at home because sadly due to personal reasons i am not able to support this site with bitcoins, so if adds are possible to achive the same goal than i am all in for it
Okay, why does BBWChan keep getting errors?
i'm trying to paste images by copying them from other sources or this site then pasting them on other threads without needing to download them or putting a url

it seems to have stopped working for me

has this feature been changed or removed?
>>8445
I wasn't aware this was a feature at all? Are you sure this wasn't a vichan thing?

I'd just put a list of all boards on the front page a-la 4chan. There's few enough boards that it wouldn't really be an issue to have all of them on the front page at once
