Site improvement thread LtBarclay##FuufeZ 08/06/2018 (Mon) 06:33:01 Id:7a70df No. 1
So here we are. It's a whole new world of nodejs and css. Things aren't quite the way the should be. Here's the deal explorers. We all need to pitch in and document / try to fix the issues with the front end for lynxchan.
Here's what's been identified so far:
RSS Feeds break with '&' in post titles: Developer notified
Post form was too big and shitty: combined elements, disabled always-on captcha. Now we just enable automatically if floods happen, and popular boards will early 404 threads that look like spam (not replied to, already deep into page depth).
Mobile support sucks: Yes. Using 'desktop view' on chrome mobile mitigates some of these issues but that's crap solution. Note that mewch.net currently has the best implementation of mobile support for lynxchan, but runs a lot of custom addons. I'm not sure we have the collective programming knowledge to come up with something like that, and I think some clever css will do. But I need help with that.
No post hover: We need someone to convert the old post-hover script we had for lynxchan, but this is coming (hopefully).
No boards on top: You can use the star next to a boards title to add it to the top bar... but we could also just put them up there by default I suppose.
Hashed file names: Yeah... sorry.
Actual other themes: This is low priority but when we have the engine running like we want, certainly it will be easy to get some creative minds together on this.
Thumbnail quality is poor: this should be fixed now

Any way we could get the "last 50 posts" option back? it was helpful when looking at a thread that had grown to hundreds of posts/replies. sometimes when I try to scroll to the bottom of a huge long thread like that the site freezes (both phone and PC).
so every single time I open a new thread, including this one I just opened to reply to.... I get a sidebar on the far right. It's a bunch of other threads from the same subboard... but... I don't need to see that there, and it just eats system resources, if I had wanted to open those other threads, I'd have done so when I was viewing the board, I don't need to see the OP to every thread, inside every thread...

This is especially annoying because.. let's say I open a dozen threads in tabs, because those are the threads I want to read today, well whoops you just opened a dozen copies of the board that are all identical over and over. sorry if this is an option I can disable, if it is, I can't find how I enabled it, or how I disable it.

Somehow this front-end was broken when forking penumbra. The original implementation remembers when you close and keep it closed on future occasions.
Found the issue. From sidecatalog.js

if (!localStorage.hideSideCatalog) {
sideCatalog.style.display = 'block';
sideCatalog.className = 'hide-mobile-nav';
}

It relies on the class 'hidden' to not be shown, but you are replacing the class instead of appending it.
>>489
any chance of an admin fixing it? or are you suggesting users can somehow do it with a style?
>>490
working on this now
Why are timestamps on posts missing. This started in the past 24 hours or so.
>>317
Only hidden when your screen is less than 812px wide. It's a compromise to improve usability on mobile.
>>318
could we possibly get Date/Time k back? It REALLY helped w/ knowing when MAB & WeTransfer links were dead...
>>321
huh? I can see the date/time of your post....
>>326
...yeah, literally found out I could see em if I just rotated my smartphone after I made that post. lol
A thing: typing in "bbw-chan.nl" doesn't work as a URL.

You need to put the HTTPS in front of it, right now, and it treats the non-HTTPS as a 404 error. You might want to redirect that, somehow.
